The near-infraredlight which is generated in LEDs locatedin the upper section of the measurement stand is conductedthrough a glass-fibre light-conductor cableonto the measurement planes. Thelight shines through theviscometer before it arrives at another light-conductor cable locatedon the opposite side; insidethis second cable,the light is conductedto a receiver inthe uppersection of the measurement stand.
While the liquid meniscus passes through the measurement planes, the lens -likeeffect of the meniscuscauses a short-term darkening of the light beam, followed by amagnification. Thisprocess generates a measurement signal which can be evaluatedaccurately.
